I have always loved mysteries. I was the kid hiding out in the library at school, reading my first Sherlock Holmes mystery adventures. I remember how my imagination sparked as I got pulled into the stories, in the old hardcover books, with line drawing illustrations. I was fascinated and inspired by the eccentric Holmes and the stalwart Dr. Watson. This was the beginning of my love affair with mysteries.
My brother and sister and I would watch old mystery films on television together. It was probably the only time we really got along. Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone, The Thin Man, Charlie Chan and #1 son. We watched Perry Mason reruns. The old black and white shows from the fifties with Raymond Burr. The stories and the characters were amazing.
As I got older I continued to read mysteries. Oh, I read other genres and non-fiction too, but mysteries are my favorite. I still watch those same timeless movies that we watched as kids, because those old black and white films and the classic mysteries represent something special to me that I cannot adequately put into words.
I think back on those early years, reading those mysteries and watching those old movies and T.V. shows with my siblings and how simple and permanent things seemed back then. Those were good times and I miss them.
The joy experienced from reading and watching mysteries over the years led me to finally pen my own mystery novel; Murder By Plane. I was inspired to write something that combined my love of those old black and white Hollywood films from the 1930s with the traditional whodunit mystery novel.
The main character, Reginald St. John, is an actor and aviator (I also love airplanes), who usually finds himself in the company of beautiful women and deadly enemies. The story is fast paced, but easy to follow.
This mystery is for anyone who is searching for something nice and simple and vintage that may entertain them in the same way it did me when I wrote it.
